After the recent arrest of Madhya Pradesh politician Manohar Lal Dhakad, who was allegedly caught on camera engaging in a sexual act with a woman on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway near Mandsaur, an image and video, claiming to be of the woman and identifying her as “Lubna Qureshi”, have also gone viral on social media. The 27-second video purportedly shows Qureshi crying and accusing the police of mistreating her.
Newchecker found that none of the multiple news reports by major media outlets on the case had named the woman in the video. According to the reports, seen here, here and here, authorities have yet to identify or arrest the woman, which points towards “Lubna Qureshi” being a fabricated identity, while also contradicting the viral video claiming to show the woman tearfully accusing the police of misbehaving with her.
Newschecker noticed the overly glossy texture of the image, indicating that it may be AI-generated. We then ran the image past Hive Moderation, an AI-content detection platform, which found it 87.4% likely to contain AI-generated or deepfake content.
We also ran the photo past SightEngine, which found it 96% likely to be AI-generated, while WasitAI said it was quite confident that the image, or a significant part of it, was AI.
Newschecker ran a reverse image search of keyframes, which led us to the longer, uncropped version of the viral video, titled “Bikaner Ki Sherni का होश उड़ाने वाला New Video”, which was uploaded by Rajasthan Tak on Facebook on August 23, 2024, well before the recent incident.
